Staying Motivated
If you are serious about writing a novel you must put your passion for writing ahead of your free time. Crafting a book requires commitment and you will most certainly sacrifice some of your personal time in order to do so.
Let’s look at a few examples of how to achieve this:
Write every day as this can trigger the creative process – create small writing goals such as committing to writing a page a day. At the end of 365 days, you will have a 365 – page book.
Do not edit as you write – switching back and forth between creativity and editing causes you to lose focus.
Avoid distractions – writing requires attention. So, create a space where outside distraction does not affect you. Turn off any mobile phones, filter out those outside noises, and place a do not disturb sign on your door.
Take a rest – if your writing become flat or blocked, put your book aside. Take a break and, when you’re ready, resume writing. Give yourself a deadline and adhere to it.
Use creative prompts - challenge yourself with writing prompts. This will help to ignite ideas and keep motivation flowing.
