Foreshadowing
Foreshadowing is a literary term that occurs when an author provides hints or clues for future plot events.
A writer tells a reader, partial facts about coming events, and often uses foreshadowing in the early stages of a novel or at the start of a chapter, as it can create tension in regards to how the story will unfold.
Example:
In the Harry Potter series, author J.K. Rowling frequently foreshadows future events in the story. Here, the author was able to pepper little clues about future plot points throughout the series.
